The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for a regular, full-time, Entry-level or Lateral/Certified female Corrections Deputy to perform work in the care and custody of adult prisoners in the Yamhill County Corrections Facility, and gender specific duties for female prisoners. General duties are outlined on the attached position description. Varied shifts may include days, nights, rotating, on-call, holidays, and weekends.
The successful candidate will be dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and possess the ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a courteous, professional manner. The position requires the exercise of initiative, independent judgement, and discretion insofar as incumbent applies standards and procedures to routine situations. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is a highly desirable skill and preference will be given to qualified applicants possessing this skill.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Must also possess United States citizenship; a high school diploma/GED; an unrestricted state issued driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Oregon driver license; a good driving record; and a satisfactory work record and personal history (e.g., free of criminal convictions, although special circumstances may be considered). All candidates must be able to pass a thorough background screening as well as pre-hire medical and psychological screenings.
Special/Preferred Qualifications: One year of law enforcement experience as a uniformed police/corrections officer, or two years of college course work related to law enforcement or closely related area, or prior service as a member of the armed forces, or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training is preferred. For consideration as Lateral/Certified Deputy, applicants must have at least eighteen (18) months experience as a uniformed corrections officer and possess a Basic Corrections certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, and/or any equivalent out-of-state corrections accreditation recognized by DPSST.
Salary: $3998 -$5573/month anticipated at hire. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, health savings, paid leaves, paid holidays, PERS, and deferred compensation options.
