Grants Specialist I/II

Duties:

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with the grant application process, budgeting and financial reporting. They must be able to work independently, to analyze data and solve problems, to communicate effectively in oral and written form, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Coordination of award acceptance and project administration, including the varying daily requirements associated with the administration of proposals, awards and projects.

  • Coordination of proposal development and submission.
  • Monitor grant submission approvals to ensure that required reviews and signature approvals have been obtained prior to submission.
  • Interpret requests for proposals (RFP) from state, federal and other funding entities. RFP interpretation: determine and use best judgement for requirements.
  • Analyze grant applications to determine budget content and format, forms usage, fiscal and administrative accuracy and appropriate cost allocations for direct and indirect costs.
  • Ensure that investigators have procured (or are in the process of procuring) appropriate approvals in accordance with University and Sponsor requirements. Coordination of award acceptance and project administration.
  • Review individual grant and contract documents to ensure that all terms and conditions are applicable, acceptable, and are in compliance with current state regulations, university financial policy and procedure, general administrative policy, appropriate Regent oversight, Office of Management and Budget circulars, Federal Acquistion Regulations (and agency interpretations thereof), and funding agency general and specific terms and conditions.
  • Evaluate whether all required representations and certifications have been performed and appropriate committee approvals obtained in the compliance with Federal, State and University policies and procedures. Communications and other varying daily requirements associated with the administration of proposals and awards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between faculty members and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Represent the office and the University in a professional manner.
  • Facilitate the flow of information to Vice Presidents, Deans, directors, department chairs, faculty and staff seeking advice or information on approvals and grant activities.
  • Determine the status pending applications as requested by Principal Investigators.
