Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
ITS Enterprise Reporting & Departmental Systems (ERDS) manages the data warehouses, reporting tools and data access for administrative system reporting at UNC-Chapel Hill. The group also provides middleware services and database administration for enterprise applications. The reporting capabilities (which include Infoporte, Tableau and SAS) enable faculty and staff to access data and present it in the form that is most useful for student, financial and human resources information.
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
This position will implement infrastructure solutions that fit into the Middleware Services portfolio. The Middleware Services team provides application infrastructure support for services that include Sakai, Single Sign On, Splunk, Carolina CloudApps, Ansible/AWX, Java environments, Tableau, SAS, wiki services, source code control systems, and traditional web services.
The position responsibilities fall between traditional system administration & application development. We provide the glue that binds those roles in support of our application infrastructure responsibilities. This position will act as a backup administrator who learns how to run applications at an enterprise scale. Working in conjunction with the primary administrator(s) and the service owner(s), this position will foster innovative and enhanced solution offerings for campus.
We are seeking individuals who can move fluidly between projects and to help define/implement technical solutions that benefit the University. The best candidates will have a broad range of technical skills and be able to effectively multitask between numerous high visibility projects. They will understand emerging trends in the IT industry and help determine whether they could enhance our service portfolio.
The selected candidate will have opportunities to work with cutting edge technologies and applications including Kubernetes, Splunk and Tableau.
The selected candidate must be available for standby rotation for after-hours support.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Excellent critical and analytical thinking skills are required, as is the ability to multi-task.
Candidates must have experience with the following skills:

Scripting skills
