The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks hand surgeon holding MD (or equivalent) for faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure earning. Candidate must be board certified or board eligible in orthopaedic surgery, and eligible to be licensed in Alabama. Candidate must have completed a fellowship in orthopaedic surgery, have in-depth clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, be highly motivated, and compassionate to all patients. Dedication to teaching and training of resident physicians is expected.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is passionate about mentoring and training the next generation of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Robust training for residents is provided in all aspects of the specialty. Training in orthopaedic surgery is provided at University Hospital, UAB Highlands, the Veterans’ Administration Hospital, Children's of Alabama and the American Sports Medicine Institute. These hospitals provided an average daily orthopaedic census of 90 patients and account for 4,000 operative procedures each year. Outpatient visits relating to orthopaedics at these hospitals total over 60,000 including 10,000 emergency room visits.
