2nd Shift Custodians
- Pay is $14.07/hour + $0.40/hour shift differential for 2nd shift.
- Full time position
- Anticipated work hours – 2:30 to 11:00 p.m. when school in session, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when school not in session
- Tentative start date: As soon as possible
- Anticipated location: Positions available at De Pere High School and De Pere Middle School
Position Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
It is understood that individual positions covered by this job description may place significantly more emphasis on some duties over others
Cleaning of halls and assigned classrooms and commons areas, including:
- Sweep, dust, mop floors, desks, tabletops;
- Wash blackboards, mirrors, clean glass, and other furniture and equipment as needed;
- Empty baskets and recycle containers and otherwise collect trash;
- Generally straighten up materials and furniture as needed;
- Replace paper products, soap, and other disposable supplies as needed;
- Removes graffiti and scuff marks from assigned spaces.
Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, toilets, urinals, showers and like areas.
Security:
- Lock windows, classroom doors and other normally secured areas for all assigned rooms;
- Report any security problems or areas where locks and other security devices are not functioning;
- Immediately report any break-ins, breakage, theft, or other security breaches (Custodian II if available, Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds or Police, as appropriate);
- Identify any safety problems which may exist including sharp or splintered protrusions, slippery or otherwise unsafe walking areas, facility plant failures, water leaks, and the like.
Report and communicate directly with Custodian II and Custodian I as needed, regarding:
- Safety issues and hazards;
- School-wide equipment and facility failures or problems;
- Physical plant failures, i.e. HVAC, broken windows and similar problems;
- Supply and equipment needs;
- General and specific violations of district policies;
- Absences, vacation and other availability needs and/or requirements.
Know and apply basic district policies with specific emphasis on:
- Blood-borne pathogens;
- Safety and security;
- Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Right-to-Know program.
Periodically complete assigned projects, including:
- Strip, seal, wax and buff floors;
- Painting and related projects;
- Specific safety initiatives.
May, on occasion, perform duties such as building checks and providing coverage for events.
All other duties as assigned.

General Qualifications
- One year of cleaning and custodial experience.
- Ability to work independently – must demonstrate self-motivation.
- Ability to operate simple equipment, re: buffers, waxers and related devices.
- Ability to read simple and direct instructions.
- Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds loading and unloading for periods of up to one hour, 100 pounds infrequently. Physical capabilities include bending, twisting, repetitive side-to-side motion and repetitive wrist motion, as well as the ability to reach, carry, push, pull, lift and handle item(s) weighing 100 pounds while performing work duties. Position requires unrestricted mobility on a regular and consistent basis for the majority of the workday.
Tolerance for and ability to work with chemicals, disinfectants, waxes.
Additional “Preferred” Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Some specific demonstrable knowledge with regard to entry-level facilities maintenance, cleaning and related equipment.
