ITS Office 365 Cloud Systems Engineer
Information Technology and Security at The University of Tampa has an opening for an Office 365 Cloud Systems Engineer. Directly reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, the Office 365 Cloud Systems Engineer will support and maintain the University's Office 365 environment, cloud server technology, server infrastructure, and support server systems operations. They work very closely with all ITS areas and are required to ensure servers are up to date, secure, available, backed up, functional, and stable 24/7, 365 days a year.
This position will conduct need analysis, monitoring, security configurations, regular maintenance, and support. They will support and operate in multiple environments—providing infrastructure as a service, platforms as a service, and managing software as a service Office 365 applications such as (email, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.). In addition, they will support the authentication/access to such environments, and manage business continuity ecosystems.
The position is also responsible for coordinating and directing Office 365 cloud activities and providing technical direction in support of project and support teams. This position includes providing technical and architectural expertise in support of cloud computing and automation efforts, focusing on the design of cloud, email, Office 365, and Infrastructure as a Service platform environments and the systems and services that run in those environments. The position works to recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective solutions and enhancements.
The Office 365 – Cloud Engineer will work collaboratively to provide faculty and students with robust and effective technology infrastructure and ensure adherence to industry best practices and innovative solutions. They will implement proven methodologies to promote continuous system operations, resiliency, disaster recovery, business continuity plans and documentation of server systems. This individual will also assist in managing infrastructure vendor relationships, assisting with budgetary items, and initiating partnerships that can result in donations of equipment or software for use in labs and classrooms.
This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to be on call or to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the day to day activities of securing email systems, vulnerability management, remediation of critical vulnerabilities, review and analysis of system events.
- Phishing – tracking and removing email threats in Office 365.
- Review of the systems backup, cloud capabilities.
- Checking tenants for phishing email – malicious emails.
- EFD – Email fraud defense. Email deliverability and authentic in nature. Managing the service related to this.
- Ensure that cloud systems and applications are available, reliable, and meet the service delivery needs of the University.
- Participate with information security and other ITS staff members to ensure proper direction and development of all server systems policies, procedures, and architecture.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of disaster recovery, business continuity, and resiliency plans in the server systems area.
- Identify and coordinate installation, upgrades, and ongoing support of the cloud and server system environment.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to service desk tickets and keep everyone updated on status.
- Collaboratively review, plan, and implement upgrades of existing applications, ensuring minimal disruption to service delivery.
- Develops new system and application implementation plans, testing procedures and training plans to ensure operational reliability.
- Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse.
- Coordinate and execute upon approved adjustments and changes that increase performance and availability.
- Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems.
- Provide up-to-date system documentation and inventories.
- When necessary, work in concert with software and hardware vendors for problem resolution.
- Ensure integrity and availability of data through continuous assessment of data backup operations.
- Provide advance notification of all planned server systems and network outages within a robust change control environment and set realistic expectations on availability.
- Collaboratively work with members of Information Technology and Security as necessary to resolve issues or assist with projects as assigned.
- Stays current with technological developments in server systems technology and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology.
- Confirms server system security measures are in place and followed, ensuring the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of the data.
- Support Information Technology and Security in ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 related practices to ensure the security and protection of university assets and data.
- Adhere to policies and procedures as defined by Information Technology and Security management and leadership.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technology related discipline.
- Three to five years of experience working as a senior IT systems engineer with a cloud focus, or an Office 365 administration role.
- Minimum one professional level Information security certification required (Office 365, Azure, AWS, Microsoft or comparable vendor security certifications) with ability to earn additional as required.
- Higher Education experience is desired but not a requirement.

- Working knowledge of IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud technologies.

- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to work with a range of technical staff to facilitate joint solutions.
