Spalding University invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of President. The next President of Spalding University will lead this mission-driven, student-centered community to its next level of financial sustainability, enrollment growth, and academic achievement through strategic vision, inclusive and transparent servant leadership, and a lived commitment to its mission and core values in the tradition of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

 

Spalding University is a Catholic, co-educational, private, liberal arts-based institution located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. One of the first institutions of private higher education in Kentucky to open its doors to students of color, Spalding remains one of the most racially diverse of Kentucky’s private colleges with 35% of students self-identifying as people of color. The first Certified Compassionate University in the world (Charter for Compassion), Spalding prides itself on offering a student-centered educational experience that prioritizes academic excellence, flexibility, and support.

 

With a total enrollment of approximately 1,500, Spalding University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award more than 65 degrees at the associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s, and doctoral levels. Offering six doctoral-level programs with a significant research component, Spalding is recognized by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as a doctoral research university.

 

The President is the chief executive officer of Spalding University and is appointed by the Board of Trustees. In collaboration with the Board of Trustees and campus community, the incoming President will leverage the University’s positive momentum to look to the future while honoring its foundational mission and values, unique relationship with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, and transformative impact on students’ lives.

 

Spalding University’s 23-acre urban campus is located in historic Old Louisville, providing easy access to the city’s vibrant culture, dining, and entertainment options. Since 2017, Spalding has added nine buildings to its inventory and has expanded its built environment to 634,604 square feet. Spalding’s campus boundaries include 12 acres of greenspace.  Over the past five years, Spalding invested a total of $11.5M on maintenance and capital improvement projects.
