We’re looking for an Engineer that would enjoy working with a team of professionals to participate in the design for implementation of the District’s $4.5 BILLION capital improvement program. The successful candidate strives to deliver high quality designs of complex projects and assist in streamlining the processes for others to design to our standards. The successful candidate also possesses excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong interpersonal skills and must be able to multi-task and meet assigned deadlines.

This position would be involved in design of projects, review of designs prepared by others and setting standards for the construction of our unique facilities and capital improvement projects to support the existing water management system and the building of water storage impoundments, constructed wetlands, and other infrastructure to support the restoration of America’s Everglades.

The candidate shall be an experienced Electrical Professional Engineer that serves in a hands-on Electrical engineering design capacity as a technical expert responsible for the preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, supporting design reports and calculations, reviewing designs performed by others and providing Engineering During Construction support, including for designs by others, in relation to District Guidelines and Standards, provides technical coaching to less seasoned engineering staff as well as evaluating and processing engineering change control requests, and preparing and updating District standards for a broad range of water resource related projects for the Bureau. 

Incumbent has solid working knowledge of standards and practices for related engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Structural, Civil and Environmental. Incumbent demonstrates extensive technical expertise and experience in design development and preparation of design reports, calculations, design plans and technical specifications in support of construction contract document preparation. Engineering services and decisions are made based on a diversified knowledge of theories, concepts, and practices related to the Electrical engineering discipline with an emphasis on design of restoration, flood control and water supply infrastructure. Incumbent serves as the principal designer on multi-disciplined project design teams as required for completion of the scheduled project design deliverables.

Designs are for new construction and refurbishment of aging infrastructure. The types of projects will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Electrical service and controls for operable water control structures, pump stations and supporting equipment.
  • Automation of flood control and water supply infrastructure.
  • Electrical features for new and existing office space, control buildings, IT shelters, communications towers, and generators.
  • Grounding plans for handrails, fences, fuel platforms, antennas and other ancillary features that support the mission of the District.
  • Arcflash evaluation and coordination.

Incumbent is responsible for keeping immediate supervisor current on the status of deliverables and assignments.
May assist in developing the District's strategic programs. Must be good communicator as project work requires collaboration with a variety of professionals, from management to end-user employees, and designers and reviewers from internal teams, external consultants and governmental agencies. Also requires strong analytical and creative thinking skills for effective decision-making. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred. Experience in supervising a small team of design professionals and engineering during construction experience is preferred. Strong design abilities with health and safety in mind, striving to protect staff and the public is necessary. Consistently applied, high attention to detail is necessary for documenting design decisions and following design review procedures. Experience serving as Engineer of Record on projects that have progressed from design inception thru construction close-out is highly preferred. Position will be filled by an incumbent that can demonstrate experience as designer for electrical and controls elements of projects of increasing complexity during his or her career progression with an emphasis on specific design experience for some or all the types of projects listed above.

Employment Guidelines:
This position may be filled at either the Lead or Senior Engineer level or at the lower level as a Staff Engineer.
Principal/Lead/Senior/Staff Engineer:  Typically has a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred, from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 11+, 8+, 6+, and 4+ years of experience, respectively for Principal, Lead, Senior and Staff Engineer, that demonstrates measurable career progression and increased responsibilities within the engineering discipline are required. Discipline for engineering education and experience requirements is Structural, Industrial, Civil, Ocean engineering or similar.

License: 
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to ability to obtain valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license by reciprocation from another state within 6 months (12 months if at least 6 years of relevant experience but in a position that did not require licensure). 

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events such as hurricanes.
Working environment is typically office oriented but field work in support of projects is required.
