Environmental Safety Specialist

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Safety Specialist.

Primary Job Duties: Assist with the development, updating, planning and management of campus safety programs, including the implementation of those programs to ensure a healthful and safe physical environment for employees, students, and visitors. Conducts indoor air quality evaluations. Performs building inspections and works with affected parties to understand causal factors and correct deficiencies. Maintains partnerships throughout campus to provide recommendations for common-sense solutions for a safer work environment. Understands building operation systems and works with physical plant to remedy problems. Investigates vehicle accident and injury cases to determine root cause.  Provides reports to affected departments with remedial recommendations for avoiding a repeat occurrence. Peforms building and AED inspections and submits corrective action repair requests. Performs annual review of safety and environmental programs and evaluates compliance with University, federal, state, and local regulations. Performs fume hood and eyewash testing process. Reviews inspection reports and ensures compliance in the areas of waste management, including hazardous, non-hazardous and certain recyclable wastes. Assists in the management of hazardous waste collection and disposal for campus departments. Manages the online safety training portal including providing guidance for access, assigning training and tracking compliance. Manages the chemical inventory database and safety data sheet repository for all hazardous campus chemicals. Provides guidance for access to the chemical inventory database. Maintains instructor certification and provides faculty and staff training for CPR, AED and first aid. Develops content for safety website and sustainability website reflecting best practices in effective communication and imagery. Responds to calls for spilled hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals.  Responds to calls for mold and odors from chemicals or those of unknown origin.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational or Environmental Safety, Science or Criminal Justice or a related field and at least three years related experience in the Sciences, Law Enforcement or Fire/Life Safety. Certification in AED and CPR training or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. 

This is a full-time, exempt, Contingent II (long-term contractual), position with a limited benefits package including medical, prescription, dental, paid leave, tuition remission and more. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is considered essential and may be called upon to provide emergency coverage when necessary.
