Postdoctoral Researcher - Athens Campus
Postdoctoral Research Associate will support the on-going research in the laboratory, especially provide timely needed knowledge and skills to assist in experiments of a NIH funded grant. This position will participate in research on effects of zinc and other metal ions on the brain by studying and countering the cellular and molecular changes that may occur in ischemic brain damage. Primary Responsibilities: 1) Plans and conducts assigned research projects within the laboratory while working with other investigators, staff and students. Research will focus on effects of zinc and other metal ions on the brain by studying and countering the cellular and molecular changes that may occur in ischemic brain damage. Main techniques involved in the projects include: 1) Zinc and metal ion fluorescent imaging acquisition; 2) Brain lesion volume determination; 3) Blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability test; 4) small animal handling and surgery; 5) molecular biological study with biological/biochemistry assays. 2) Manage the day-to-day aspects of a laboratory, which includes keeping outstanding laboratory experiment records, and tracking, ordering supplies and reagents for the study. Mentoring medical, graduate, and undergrad students. 3) Prepare manuscripts for publication, and assist with the development of grant applications.
Requirements
-Doctoral Degree in Metal ion cell biology -1 year of work related experience -Experience with zinc & metal ion biology
