Job Summary

The Position

The Internal Communications Specialist leads the planning, development, and implementation of effective internal messaging to advance the college's strategic goals. It is a highly collaborative position that provides counsel and expertise to college leadership and coordinates with key partners across the college to achieve consistent and complementary strategy and messaging.

Key responsibilities include development and implementation of a college-wide communications plan, and development and maintenance of policies, procedures, guidelines and goals that ensure factual, appropriate, and timely information.  This position leads the creation, design, and distribution of content across various signage, and ensures the channels are optimized for effective delivery. This position position also provides high level internal communications expertise to all departments of the college, helping them produce effective messaging that aligns with the college's internal communications plan, and follows the college's policies and procedures.

This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals by supporting efforts to achieve equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field
  • three (3) years of professional experience in communications, including copywriting and editing

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (we will interview for)

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and implement effective communication strategies, and skill in designing effective communication materials using language standards and clear/concise messaging
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive design and language
  • Proven ability to create effective communications materials and write articles for publication
  • Demonstrated creativity to develop concepts, stories, messages, ideas, campaigns, and other materials consistent with the college image
  • Strong technical skills using productivity platforms such as Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel)
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and content management systems
  • Solid understanding of, and experience with project management principles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using data and analysis to measure and evaluate communication efforts sufficient to identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations
  • Experience in communications for a high-volume, culturally responsive, and customer service-oriented educational institution or other non-profit
  • Experience leading, coordinating, and directing the work of vendors, consultants, contractors or other staff sufficient to ensure communication efforts are completed as planned
  • Ability to provide innovative, creative approaches to work
