Patient Client Access Representative - 534021

Job Summary:

Provides centralized patient scheduling, registration, eligibility verification, and pre-certification of medical services. This position is part of the team concept of Student Health Clinics (SHC) which is devoted to the delivery of student focused healthcare.

  • Registers new and returning patients for clinical services at Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) and Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC) student clinics, by entering demographic and billing information in the practice management system by obtaining pertinent information and ensuring all entries are correct. Greets and directs patients and visitors for appointments utilizing effective customer service techniques. Displays courteous, polite, and helpful demeanor at all times.
  • Schedules new, follow-up, cancels, and edits appointments, and records no-show patients accurately.
  • Answers telephone calls and responds to questions or inquiries or transfers when appropriate.
  • Ensures readiness of the reception area for each work day and has all front desk activities fully operational at the start of business hours.
  • Collects and posts payments in adherence to cash and credit card policies and procedures. Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards transactions for the department/unit. Will have access to a third-party system that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information.
  • Performs end of day closing procedures, including financial transactions, to ensure accuracy and optimal revenue
  • collection.
  • Verifies insurance, benefits, coverage & eligibility. Secures precertification and/or authorizations as required by the contracted insurance plans/payers. Keeps providers and members of the health care team apprised of the precertification process and final coverage determinations. Prepares various communications and compiles supporting documents for the purpose of processing prior authorization requests.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and maintains privacy and dignity of patients; ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Experience and/or skilled in data entry with minimal errors.
