The Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Arkansas is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Officer at the office in Little Rock. The Federal Defender Organization provides defense services for indigent defendants in federal court.
Starting Salary Range: JSP-11/01 ($61,218) -JSP-15/01 ($121,280) depending on qualifications and experience.
Applicants must be high school graduates and must have three years of general experience which demonstrates the ability to: read, analyze, and apply relevant policies and procedures to office operations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; recognize and analyze problems and recommend practical solutions; and have a general knowledge of office practices and legal processes. A working knowledge of Word or equivalent is required, and experience in Excel and databases is preferred.
Applicants must also possess three years of specialized administrative/ management experience, including experience with accounts payable and budget management; strong organizational skills; and excellent written & oral communications skills.
Duties: Some of the duties of the administrative officer are: serves as liaison to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts on matters pertaining to budget, personnel, procurement and space and facilities. Develops and prepares the annual budget, spending plan, reviews and approves payment documents, develops and implements internal controls, submits monthly reports, oversees the property management, advises and assists Defender on staffing issues, recruitment, selection, appointments, promotions and separations, and ensures compliance with Judiciary policy and procedures.
An undergraduate college degree with an overall "B" grade point average may be substituted for one year of specialized experience.
Completion of a master's degree or two years of graduate study in such fields as business or public administration, accounting, personnel management, information systems, legal management, or other field closely related to the subject matter of the position, or completion of a JD will count for two years of specialized experience.
The final candidate will be subject to a "high sensitive" background check as required by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Salary will be based upon qualifications and experience. Federal benefits apply. Equal opportunity employer.
