POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working independently and with initiative, the Digital Collections Manager Librarian 2 position is a non-supervisory position that reports to the Preservation Services Team Leader. The digital collections manager will vision and execute the future for the institutional repository (Digital Case), including setting policies and standards for ingest and management of digitized content. The incumbent is responsible for managing a balanced portfolio of three key activities in support of the programs of the institutional repository: (1) repository operations, (2) relationship management, and (3) digital research support and instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide expertise in digital collections management and applies best practices; apply advanced techniques and technologies, and good judgment in the field; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Utilize a significant level of expertise within library science; contributions are recognized at the library and university; maintain knowledge about library emerging issues and trends and the role of the library; understand and articulate organizational positioning and strategic alignment. (25%)
- Monitor and implement trends in digital collections and IR areas within academia, providing the executive leadership team with the necessary information to ensure Case Western Reserve University is prepared for potential changes by continually investigating and providing leadership with expertise about emerging new trends, risks, opportunities, and resources and recommending possible courses of action. (18%)
- Provide digital research support for students and faculty, including meeting regularly with faculty, students, and community partners to learn about their digital research needs in context of the institutional repository and digitized library collections. (8%)
- Manage relationships including regularly promoting library resources and services, developing strategies and materials to promote curricular and academic goals, and conducting and analyzing user research through surveys, focus groups, etc. to ascertain the level of community satisfaction with Digital Case. (8%)
- Develop partnerships with faculty to provide high-quality instruction on digital tools that support the teaching, learning, and research processes. Deliver high quality instruction using a variety of techniques and formats. Provide instruction on use of Digital Case and utilizing digital collections. (8%)
- Create and develop the necessary partnerships to support library digital collections services, including partnerships with University Technology, colleges and academic departments, management centers, University Circle institutions, and other regional and national academic institutions. (8%)
- Contribute to the library, the institution, and the profession through sustained and progressive scholarship, creative expression, and service at the local, regional, or national level. (8%)
- Work with other team members to find new ways to visualize and interact with the contents of Digital Case. (6%)
- Participate in the Collection Strategies - Digitization and Digital Case sub-committee, using these meetings to identify digital case and digitization program priorities and to discuss policies, procedures, and workflows. (6%)

CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with the Preservation Services Team Leader to ensure excellent service. Moderate contact with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library services. Occasional contact with managers and staff of other units in the library as required by projects.
University: Consult frequently with faculty, including assigned liaison faculty, faculty committees and other department administrators to determine teaching and research informational requirements to make appropriate information management decisions. Work regularly with faculty to develop, review, and improve information management policies and procedures. Consult occasionally with other campus librarians to coordinate information management decisions for the provision of library services. Consult with staff throughout the university to develop and implement programs for the delivery of services to students and faculty.
External: Participate in local, regional, and national organizations to maintain a network of informational professionals. Infrequent to occasional collaboration with colleagues in OhioLINK and other academic libraries. Students: Frequent daily communication with students to provide assistance and information resources to support their education and research needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may supervise non-exempt staff, student employees, and temporary full or part-time workers.
QUALIFICATIONS
The initial rank of the Digital Collections Manager will be based upon the qualifications of the individual with regard to that person's professional knowledge, abilities and skills; contributions to the profession through service and scholarly endeavors; and, professional qualities consistent with university and library values.
Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience.
Education/Licensing: Master's degree in Library Science or relevant area.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to make decisions in areas of expertise; can collaborate and partner effectively; moderately expert in digital collections management and able to apply best practices; can use advanced techniques and technology to innovate; ability to perform or administer slightly complex or specialized duties; communicate effectively.
- Evidence of professional contribution publishing, creative contributions, presentations and/or professional service at the state, regional, or national level); keeps abreast of the role and application of trends for libraries in higher education.
- Ability to work in and contribute to an environment of inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging.
- Experience with digital collections management software, repositories, and/or digital scholarship applications and tools (e.g. Fedora, Omeka, DSpace, ContentDM, etc)
- Understanding of metadata and imaging standards required for ingesting content and interoperability with other repositories.
- Knowledge of information architecture/technology stacks typically used in institutional repositories to effectively communicate with University Technology staff about requirements, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Knowledge of digital preservation workflows, tools, and techniques that support the long-term preservation of digital collections to effectively work with digital preservation librarian.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office/library environment. This position is not eligible for the staff hybrid work program.
